Project Description
The story of the University of Texas at San Antonio’s (UTSA) Main Campus began in 1970 with an ambitious and visionary plan rooted in the “Law of the Indies”, a 16th-century Spanish framework that shaped cities in the New World. The original campus was strategically organized around Sombrilla Plaza, a student-centered public space defined by shaded loggias and a grand sombrilla. Pedestrian pathways radiated outward, creating a cohesive framework for future growth aligned with the university’s academic mission.
