Project Description
Founded in 1856, the Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) is the oldest continuously operated public school in Texas. Located just south of downtown Austin, the campus is considered sacred ground for the deaf community—a place with deep historical and emotional resonance. Serving residential and day students from across the state, TSD provides comprehensive PK–12 education along with essential wraparound services. By the late 1980’s, the campus suffered from decades of neglect, and many in the community pushed to move the school out of the city to redevelop the valuable property. At this pivotal moment, our young firm secured what became our first—and most defining, commission: reimagining and rebuilding the TSD campus.
