Project Description
Inspired by a 1914 National Geographic article on an isolated Himalayan kingdom, the Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy, now the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), adopted Bhutanese architecture as the foundation of its new El Paso campus. For over century, this distinctive aesthetic, defined by massive battered walls, deep overhangs, and intricate mandala motifs, shaped the architectural identity of the campus. As UTEP grew to over 22,000 students with projections to exceed 30,000, the need for a future-focused, strategically aligned campus master plan became essential.
