Rio Grande Campus Parking Garage and Bookstore

Austin Community College District’s (ACC) Rio Grande Campus Parking Garage and Bookstore presented an opportunity to solve a critical need for parking while enhancing the character of an eclectic neighborhood just north of downtown Austin. With a program that included parking and retail functions at the street level, our intent was to respect the surrounding historic context and contribute to a walkable, welcoming campus environment. Our design blends functionality and neighborhood sensitivity, incorporating brick to match the original 1910 Austin High School façade—now home to ACC’s Rio Grande Campus—and creating a lively streetscape with storefronts, generous sidewalks, deep awnings, and thoughtful pedestrian scale.
