UT Austin Main Tower Renovation Dream Team

At BGK Architects, we’re proud to support the ongoing restoration of the iconic University of Texas Tower at The University of Texas at Austin, where incredible progress is bringing this landmark back to its original glory.
Exterior restoration is well underway, with cleaning, repairs, and refinishing already visible. The tower’s intricate spandrel panels—featuring more than 100 letters from Egyptian, Greek, Hebrew, Latin, and Phoenician alphabets—are being carefully restored by hand, with gold leaf applied by local artisan Nancy Lee Morris.
Inside the building, renovations continue with window replacements and lighting upgrades enhancing performance while preserving the building’s historic character. As work progresses, scaffolding will extend higher to allow access to the observation deck and clock surface for further restoration.
Stay tuned as this historic campus icon is revitalized to shine for the next 100 years.
